IEthe level where you have to do jobs to earn money, there are like 5 jobs if I recall... using a password to return to that level you start with none of the jobs done, however at any time during the level you can save, and if you die to resume from where you saved, but if you turn off the game you can only start the level from scratch by putting in a password... so there must be some kinda tiny battery in there or something...

Hm, strange. I always heard it was the older model that had problems playing certain games (like Mortal Kombat). I've never had a problem on the Model 2 (although that's not to say there are no incompatibilites, because I haven't played the entire library on it). Regarding it being flimsy and cheap--It feels decent to me. Flimsy and cheap is the Jaguar CD or Magnavox CD-i players--the Sega CD Model 2 feels much better than these. The only issue I have personally experienced is that if the eject button gets dirty, it might get stuck. Apparently the fuse inside it can also go bad, but I haven't run into that either.

Yeah, I have to echo this. The model 2 is the best functioning unit. The model 2 works with every game I've ever played (over 100). The door on the model 1 is a pain, and you WILL have to open the unit to fix it at some point if you ever own one. With the space in your cabinet, there is no way you could play 32x carts on a model 1 Sega CD, it would be too tall.

My only beef with the password solution is they are not "granular" enough for me. See, back in the day I got as far as Level 2 where there are half a dozen terminals with jobs for me to perform. One of the final jobs is really hard and I never got past it. The task where you have to get to the reactor before the timer runs out and there's a lot of jumping and platforming.

Anyway, I usually load Level 3 by using a password which takes me past that part of the game and on with the adventure, but I feel bad because it means I never really finished that section. It would have been nice if there was a password to get me directly to that specific job from the terminal and more passwords to get to various other places in the game, not big chapter leaps.

Alrighty what do you experts think? Can I fit a Sega CD in there? According to the online specs the CD is 16" wide, there's only 15" unless I remove my Atari cart binders (which is fine, I have a Harmony now anyway). And from the videos I've seen the CD lid doesn't open too high so I doubt it will bump against the top shelf. My big concern is the door barely slides shut given the genesis controller cord is right up against it. Does the Sega CD add any depth? If it's even a fraction of an inch I won't be able to close the thing.

How much space do you have between the shelves? I have the same setup with a Model 2, and from the bottom shelf to the top you'll need at least 9" for standard carts, 11" for Sonic and Knuckles with another cart plugged in, or at least 12" for a Game Genie with a standard cart. That's right, with the Genesis, Model 2 CD AND the 32x, you need a shelf with a FULL FOOT of clearance to use the Game Genie! And that's with a standard cart, not even an EA Sports cart!

No, unfortunately. Not a bad version, but it's got some issues. Some slowdown I believe, and it's got those (unnecessary) borders on the sides of the screen. It's probably still one of the best games for that system though, haha.

I've heard the graphics are slightly better on SNES (and one would assume the sound is better) but that the control scheme on the SNES pad is not the best. I'm also not a fan of Nintendo censoring the game.

My bigger priority is the internal battery, I want to be able to save my progress and since this title is twenty years old I'm worried the life of those cartridge batteries is getting close to their end.

It's good. Just like all the other versions, with the sharpest looking of the newer pre-rendered FMV sequences. It lacks the constant in-game music of the Sega CD one though. If it had it, it would be the best version, hands down.

thanks to this thread and links provided, i now know that Another World (aka Out of This World) and Flashback both have sequels, and that a third Flashback was in development and then cancelled. neat.

I have the Mac version and the Genesis version. I never looked into the SegaCD port because I didn't like the look of the cinemas. I thought the original filled-polygon cinemas were pretty badass and thought the SegaCD version's CG renderings looked like a downgrade.

One more question, this review mentions "model [1] was replaced with a lightweight version that rode sidesaddle with the Genesis and had a pop-top lid. Compared to the first Sega CD, it felt flimsy and cheap. The newer model is also known to have problems running certain games"
