As announced earlier, we will be organizing a hands-on session exploring some sample person-data (extracts of between 100–1000 records per project in a variety of formats) collected by the LOD People Activity.

Participants will be introduced to the sample datasets at <https://github.com/DigiClass/LOD-People/tree/main/sample-data>, with the option to clone or download the repository, or explore the metadata. The main tasks of the session will be as follows:

  1. Discuss how to document the outputs of this session and future meetings to make them appropriately sharable, reusable and traceable

  2. Explore the data, and make note of any links or alignments that can either programmatically or otherwise be made between them

  3. Experiment—through hands-on activities—with processes such as converting the sample data into wikidata-style RDF, performing data reconciliation, and storing and querying the data in a triplestore

Considering these tasks, the range of expertise we require is quite wide, expecting participants with various backgrounds from those being experts in cataloguing or prosopography to those familiar with more technical aspects of Linked Data (e.g. OpenRefine, triplestores, SPARQL, etc.).

Of course, as this event will very much be the beginning of conversation and, especially a precursor to more intense LP 11 People Activity in December, all who are interested in the topic are welcome regardless of your level of technical expertise and knowledge and we will be grateful for your contribution either on theoretical or technical issues.
