I'd like to coin a scientific term that is based on "thread" as in "needle and thread".

What is the ancient greek equivalent of "thread"?

Another way to approach it is this. When Penelope undoes at might what she had woven during the day, what word is used by Homer on the "thread" she pulls or uses?
