(A) Why is it that the Maya made such an accurate calendar, that we
can understand, but people can't agree on the specific date the Maya
calendar ended in Gregorian terms. December 21, 22, or 23. (B)Why did
only the history channel, and one or two other sources (both of which
didn't give specifics about it) talk at all about any of the Mayans
amazing Katunes (prophecies spanning 20 years) that told of subjects
going against their leaders, leaders being harmed, and subjects
separating between the years of 1855 and 1875 (part of which was
during the civil war), foretold the acts of Martin Luther King, and
even the American Revolution? (C)Why are the Mayans so similar to the
Egyptians, and why do some websites, books, and even the Indiana Jones
Movie make reference to Egyptian artifacts and sculptures of Pharaohs
being made by the Maya? (D)Did the Maya foretell a specific time of
day the world will end such as 11:00 Pm? (E) And why did someone who
burned almost all of the Mayan texts write some of the most important
things we know about the Maya today?
All these questions and more will be answered as this discussion
expands. Do you have an idea? Feel free to reply, as we find the
answers together. Each question is lettered, so you can refer to it in
a post.

I am sure of several (but not all) of these as it is, but I'd like to
hear your thoughts. Do some research, and leave your thoughts about it.

(B) I don't know if you can really believe the Katunes. They're kind
of like the Nostradamus prophecies: so vague that you can only realize
they were predictions until after the event happens. What does the
Katune say for the year 2008?

You're right partially, but some of them match to dates very well.
We're currently in the katune 6-ahau, which began in 1993, and ends in
2012. It is a time of scarcities of corn and squash, and a time of
remembering and recording knowledge. I'd say that fits this computer
era fairly well. This also occured between 1736 and 1756, when the
first encyclopedia was published.
If you still think the Katuns are too "vague" and are just fake, then
keep reading. The revolutionary war began in 1775. Katune 2 began in
1756, and went until 1776. It said, "For half of the katun there will
be food, for HALF SOME MISFORTUNES. This katun brings the end of the
"word of God." IT IS A TIME OF UNITING FOR A CAUSE."
The revolutionary war then raged on into the next katun, katun 13.
Katun 13 said, "This is a time of total collapse where everything is
lost. It is the time of the judgment of God. There will be epidemics
and plagues and then famine. GOVERNMENTS WILL BE LOST TO FOREIGNERS
AND WISE MEN, and prophets will be lost."
If you still think the Mayan prophecies are too vague for ya and can
match anything then i dont know what to tell u.

I was actually however able to find one site that gave information on
the katuns, which is where I got most of this information. You can
find it here: http://mmothra.blogspot.com/2005/04/maya-katun-prophecies.html

And the reason the katunes don't tell of specific events is because
they repeat. After katunes 1-13 are all complete, it starts over at
the beggining. Since new events are always happening it has to be a
generic prediction. Not so specific.

D: The Maya couldn't have determined a specific time. There is nothing
in the codicies saying a specific time, and all reliable sources I've
found don't mention it. King Pacal even said that society will
collapse from us using a man made linear time, not natures own. The
only possibility is if the Maya said at sunrise, or sunset, on
December 21, 22, or 23, the world will end, and people have gone ahead
and determined when sunrise or sunset will be on whichever day they
believe is the real day.
