Here is a letter from Mayor Bowser:

April 16, 2021
Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
This week, we launched a new $350 million program to help DC residents pay their rent and utility bills. The program, STAY DC, provides financial
assistance to residents unable to pay rent and/or utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through STAY DC, the District will:
- Pay unpaid rent going back to April 1, 2020;
- Pay forward rent, up to 3 months at a time;
- Pay for water, gas, and electricity expenses on your behalf, and
- Provide extended housing support for up to 18 months, per tenant.
We encourage anyone who is struggling to pay their rent or utility bills to visit stay.dc.gov or
call 833-4-STAYDC from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We do not want a situation where the public health emergency ends and suddenly we have residents who owe thousands of dollars in back rent and bills.
We’ve got your back, DC. Apply now and let us get you the help you need to recover and get through this.
