Early AM Police Activity at 1307 Clifton St NW

Hi everyone,

At 3:45AM this morning, Clifton St residents reported hearing multiple gunshots around 13th St and Clifton St NW. They then saw a police presence on Clifton St NW and officers in the area with flashlights. There weren't any crime alerts so my ANC contacts this morning recommended I speak with the MPD 3rd District Commander's office. 

MPD was able to confirm that there were reports of multiple gunshots at 13th St NW and Clifton St NW and there was property damage at 1307 Clifton St NW as a result of the gunshots. Because (luckily) no one was injured and there were no known suspects, a crime alert wasn't sent out.

I'm not sure if the 1308 or 1312 Clifton St building cameras have good night vision capabilities, but perhaps the condo boards and building owners can run the tapes from late last night and see if anything/anyone is visible. MPD said they can use the security camera footage from buildings in the area as evidence in the case.

My contact at MPD has my contact information and said she would reach out if she hears of anything else regarding the case.

I don't think we've experienced anything like this in our recent history--I will be following this incident closely. I regularly attend the ANC 1B public safety meetings and have already notified this committee leader, our Mayor's office contact, and other 1B commissioners in the area. 

I know one of the greatest benefits of living in this area is the friendly neighborhood feel we all enjoy and it's my priority to do everything I can to ensure our safety.

Yes, this is very sad news! ANC 1B has been working with DC police to have more of a presence in the area and I’m happy that it was a quick response. 

Luke, i recommend calling the police with this information. I’m not sure how much information they have and this could be helpful. You can call the third district police office at 2026736815. If anyone has any insights on what happened last night, please reach out to the police!

If at all helpful, I recall waking to one initial gunshot.  3-5 seconds later I heard 4 more shots pop off.  Then I heard a car pull away at a faster than normal speed.  I would suspect the suspect or suspects were in a car.  Thank God for DC police who showed up within 1-2 minutes, maybe even sooner.  My line of sight from the window across the street confirmed heavy police presence.

Thank you for checking! I recommend contacting the police as this could be helpful in piecing together what happened. They told me this morning they didn’t find any suspects and perhaps this is info they don’t already have.

The cameras from 1312 Clifton St. cannot view anything beyond the front gate and the 1308 building hides that view.  After reviewing our cameras I only saw a dark colored car driving down Clifton at a fast speed, then there was alot of police activity.  If that was the car the police missed it by only a minute.

Honestly the police department shows no interest in investigating crimes in the area and I do not see them making the effort to come out investigate.  I will try and reach out but as with our break in with all the evidence they did nothing.

Hi everyone,

I reached out to the MPD 3rd district detectives Office and they said all video and photo evidence should be emailed to Antoine...@dc.gov. If the footage can’t be emailed, you can always call the detectives office and have someone pick up the footage as well (202 673 6918).

Thank you to everyone who has called in already with their knowledge—the police said they’ve had a few calls regarding the case and that it has been helpful.
