Neighbors,

It's a busy week in our community, with several events and activities for families and discussions on potential school changes. Also, please note our Ward 1 State Board Representative, Ben Williams, is included in this email, so you have his contact information.

TONIGHT (9/20), 7:00 PM: Ward 2 Education Council Meeting to discuss upcoming school boundary and student assignment study This meeting will cover 3 'scenarios' to configure school feeder patterns, etc. Feeder patterns are where your student has the right to attend based on their current school when moving from a terminal grade, e.g. 5th to 6th. There is overlap b/w W1 and W2 schools, both in where our students attend and how our current feeder pattern works, so I have been collaborating and sharing in outreach efforts with the W2EC and David Alpert, who sits on the Advisory Committee for this study. He also has a good substack that provides analysis on education.
Register for the meeting here. You'll receive a link in your email.

FRIDAY (9/22), 7:00 PM: Columbia Heights Movie Night is back! After a long hiatus, we are kicking this fun event off with The Incredibles in Tubman Elementary's field (3101 13th Street). Details and registration here

SATURDAY (9/23), 10:00AM - 12:00PM: Ward 1 Family and Education Meetup. This month, we will share resources and information on BULLYING & HARASSMENT in our schools and keeping kids safe. This quarterly meeting is for families and anyone interested in the issues that impact our youth.
