I am pleased to report that the "No Trucks Allowed" signs at the north side of 5th and H have been replaced with larger ones.

Best,

Chris

Hi Commissioner,

I shared your request with our safety and signs team for a review of the area. Please keep in mind that signs must be in compliance with the FHWA’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which governs the color, size, and placement of certain signs in the public right of way.

Our team will take a look and follow up with you.

Thanks!

Adrea

Hello, Adrea. Could you please point me in the right direction for whomever is responsible for traffic signs? Constituents of mine would like a larger, more visible "No Trucks Allowed" sign at the north intersection of 5th and H NE.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks very much for pushing this, Chris, Linda and others. I hope they do read and follow directions... or that we can get some enforcement! I think we're going to continue to see them while there is so much construction all the time though.... progress!

What can they do to enforce it?

Let me know if it is not being enforced. I will reach out to MPD if that occurs.

Nice work Chris.

Any update for upgrading our residents zone 6 only signs to 0700-2400 instead of the 0800-1930?  This is in line with barracks row and would go a long way in helping resident secure parking especially during the peak restaurant and yoga hours.

Thanks for your attention to these matters. Keep up the good work.

Best
Jeff

I can almost guarantee you that it won't be enforced.  A HUGE number of trucks pass through sign-after-sign-after-sign completely disregarding them.  I believe signs are posted on each and every block of 5th between H and Florida and there are trucks and buses that drive up that whole stretch day after day.  I've stood in the middle of the street (with my dog) and pointed at the No Trucks sign to prevent a truck from ignoring yet another sign on our street.  The drivers don't care.  It would be nice for the police to set up an enforcement of this (they would make a fortune in fines, it would easily pay for itself).  Our street is too narrow for trucks, 4th and 6th are so much better, and many car owners on our block have had to pay for truckers negligence when they try to squeeze this road.  Please do reach out to MPD to see if they are willing to do something about this.

Thanks! No updates on parking hour changes. That is all unfortunately on hold until the new parking regulations are finalized. They are currently at the mayor's office for review, and will then be published in the DC Register for notice and comment. Will let you all know when that goes out.

Is there any opportunities for residents to send comments regarding the parking hour changes?  Honestly, they make little sense for the majority of residents.  We don't need the restrictions during the middle of the day on weekdays when we're at our jobs, we need them during weekday evenings and on weekends when we are at home.  In fact, most businesses in our area would be better served as well, because their customers will have more spaces available during the day.  It doesn't seem as though the restrictions are well thought out.

And Chris, thank you for your efforts and for keeping us informed, it is appreciated.

I hear ya, but I did say the "majority of residents" ... I know that one size doesn't fit all, but I would wager that there are many more available spaces during the middle of the day than there are in the evenings.

Yes, there will be a notice and comment period before the new parking regulations. Thanks!

Good Day,,
Just to chime in......
There is increasingly NO WHERE to park on "G" between 6th and 7th.  I shudder to think what it will be like when the
condo behind us opens.  The Zone 6 only during certain hours helps but only a little.  Glad Im not the only one that sees it.

True, but the flip side is that we can park on the street close to Navy Yard and Nats Stadium - a huge plus.

I would take a spot near my house every night over the cab fare / bike ride to the stadium.

Circling back to this. Just yesterday (5/11) dump trucks hauling loads from the 501 K development were using 5th to circle while they waited. Is there some way to remind them of the ban or get MPD to enforce?
