Prescription Drug Take-Back Events This Week
Help keep the environment clean by safely disposing of unused prescriptions
The US Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting a nation-wide Prescription Drug Take-Back Event where individuals can bring their expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs to them for safe disposal. This service is free, anonymous and no questions are asked. Proper disposal of unused drugs is important to saving lives and protecting our environment. If thrown in the trash, unused drugs can be retrieved, used by teens or children or sold on the streets. If flushed, unused drugs can contaminate our water supply.
Last September, Americans turned in 350 tons (over 702,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,000 sites operated by the DEA and more than 3,800 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 10 previous take-back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 5.5 million pounds of pills.
