Good afternoon, neighbors. I am pleased to report that DDOT will be restoring two parking spots at the southwest corner of H street, at 6th Street (i.e., by DC Harvest). After I received complaints that neighborhood business were being negatively impacted by the loss of parking on H, I asked DDOT to reevaluate whether the removal of those two spots was necessary. They told me today that the Streetcar team has looked at the site and conceded that the spots could be restored. I was informed that this task should be completed soon.

Best,

Chris

While this is good news. The issues on the construction at 5th and H is getting worse. Today, counter to what you sent the neighbors regards the the parking restrictions, the contractors had the street completely shut down. It was shut for a few hours despite no notification to anyone. The police were called and put the contractor on notice. The contractor on site swears DDOT approved this but it is the exact opposite from what you told us.

Please rectify this situation and tell us how we can protect our homes from these repeated violations.

Hi, Jeff. I'm not sure what communication of mine you are referring to. I previously forwarded to the 5th and H neighborhood listserve the email sent by Brian Athey (the developer of 815 5th) on June 18th, which noted that they have DDOT-issued permits for parking restrictions of both sides of 5th Street, and that they would remove the parking restrictions as soon as the water/sewer work was completed; it was anticipated that the water/sewer work would take a few weeks. As I also noted in my email of June 20th, the fact that somebody chose to illegally remove the "no parking" signs did not remove the parking restrictions authorized by DDOT, although it does expose the person who removed the signs to criminal prosecution. I will make another follow up call to DDOT, though, on whether 5th Street can be limited to residents only traffic during the water/sewer work.

Best,

Chris
