congrats on getting some possible (likely?) collaboration with Onyx Path on 3rd Ed!
I've been writing my own 2nd Ed MoEP over the last few years (see <https://github.com/HughG/Discordians>) and, being a software developer, I ended up cobbling together a tool chain which munges text to produce various output forms of the same original (YAML + AsciiDoc) document for each Charm tree. Producing Anathema-style XML output is on my TODO list, but I'm also busy arranging to get married this autumn (and probably sell/move house as well!).
Why not just write XML in the first place? For me, Anathema was closed-source when I started (yes, that long ago). For others, writing the full text of Charms in XML might be too clunky.
It's unlikely to be useful as-is, but here's how it goes in my head ...
- Extend what's there to produce Anathema-compatible XML.
- Also extend it to produce some rich text format that can feed into the Onyx Path writer tool-chain. (I assume they have editorial processes etc., which rely on using Adobe Something-Or-Other, but maybe it can import formatted text?)
- Extend it to cover other things Anathema needs from source material (Merits, Techniques, Sorcery, Equipment, Artifacts?)
- Extend it to cover each 3rd-Ed splat as it appears.
- ...
- Don't profit! (Because it's open source ...)
So, if you're interested, have a look and/or I can give you a bit of a walk-through. Please also forward this on to the Exalted devs if you think it's of interest. At the moment, the code is mostly Ruby, because I dislike it less than Python, but there's not much of it, so it wouldn't be hard to port to Java, Groovy, or similar if that suited you better.
Anyway, good luck with 3rd-Ed development, regardless of whether or not you're interested in my ramblings :-) Time to go and add a few more $$$ to my Kickstarter pledge to try to get you funded ...
TTFN,
Hugh.
