Juan
Thank you for posting the BCCA notice for the benefit of all the
members of the Google Anaplastology Group and discussion forum. I am
sure that many in this group may be keen to sit for the exam in Paris,
if they can make it.
Does this apply to those of us who received our certification through
credentials alone and took the test at Atlanta in 2008 and passed?
Surely not! It is heartening to know that the BCCA is aware that the
stated criteria may not easily apply to everyone outside North
America. You can expect some feedback from me. There is also the issue
of language, which may become a barrier for many from the orient.
There are other issues too, such as countries where osseointegrated
implants are not used for retention, or countries where incidence of
head and neck cancers are very low, are detected very early, and where
radical resections of tumors are not done. Practitioners in those
countries would have little or no exposure to such retention
techniques, or for that matter to facial or maxillofacial work.
Perhaps as Airline pilots have licenses which specifies (FFA) what /
when pilots may or may not fly, the certification may become more
specific rather than general. If the BCCA exams are held at every
annual conference, then candidates may get a chance to upgrade their
certification. This could be assisted by conducting on an exclusive
day,(after/before the conference) relevant courses,(such as the one
at Washington DC) which may be followed by a year in which the
candidate can accumulate experience to show as evidence of competency.
The language barrier could possibly be overcome by a special clause to
allow the use of an interpreter or an audio device can have the whole
exam dictated in different languages.

> I would like to personally spread the word that the Board for Certification in Clinical Anaplastology (BCCA) has now published the eligibility criteria for any interested colleagues wishing to pursue certification in clinical anaplastology. I encourage everyone to review the Candidate Handbook (found under the Candidate Handbook sectionhttp://
bcca-cca.org/candidate.html) and the Eligibility Application (found under the Application and Exam sectionhttp://
bcca-cca.org/application.html) at the newly redesigned BCCA website.

> The BCCA will be holding a certification exam in Paris for individuals who received their certification through credentials alone and those who met the new eligibility criteria. Unfortunately, the registration deadline for this has now passed (Oct. 1); however, everyone should be aware that BCCA certification is now available to all candidates (including international applicants) that meet the program requirements as detailed in the Candidate Handbook.

> Given that this is a relatively new certification program, and it may have inadvertently been designed from a North American perspective, I encourage reviews and comments from our international stakeholders (especially with regards to the eligibility criteria). You can e-mail the BCCA at:
