Mike,
Do you have any thoughts on or experience with the Daubechies D4 Wavelet Transform?

It's an alternative way to do band-pass filtering, but in papers I see using it, I haven't found any explanation for why they chose that method instead of more common IIR/FIR filters.

Hi Steve. Different wavelets are designed to optimize different criteria. Morlet wavelets are great because they are smooth and narrow in the frequency domain. Daubechie wavelets have some nice time-domain properties, but they have energy at multiple peaks in the frequency domain, so they would be harder to interpret in terms of narrowband responses, and therefore also less conducive to building time-frequency plots. But I also must admit that I haven't done a thorough investigation, so if you are curious about it, go for it and let us know what you find ;)

Mike

Do you happen to know of any Matlab sample code for Daubechie wavelets? :)
