How does love, identity, and culture collide in contemporary times?
You’re invited to the launch of cutting fruits, our Emerging Curator Exhibition as part of SALA Festival 2025
Alyssa Powell-Ascura, in her curatorial debut, presents cutting fruits, bringing together First Nations and culturally diverse emerging and established artists to explore love’s many forms. Drawing from bell hooks’ radical understanding of love as a transformative act of care, cutting fruits reflects on love as both an emotional and political force that
shapes personal and collective identities. The exhibition seeks to find ways to repair and strengthen bonds between individuals, communities and wider society. It does so by acknowledging various perspectives, underscored by moments of joy and freedom.
Featuring works by contributing artists: Aida Azin, Ali Gumillya Baker, Yusuf Ali Hayat, Dominic Guerrera, Phuong Ngo, Alyssa Powell-Ascura, Sonya Rankine, Chris Siu, and Wee Shiang Tay.
