Lingnan University’s Department of Visual Studies welcomes applicants in cinema and digital media studies to nominate for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship competition. The fellowships last for 36 months and come with an initial annual salary of HKD $399,924 (about USD $51,000) that can be increased at the discretion of the department. The appointment will also come with a HKD $13,130 research and travel allowance. Although nomination does not guarantee a fellowship, individuals who have been nominated stand a strong chance in the competition.
Candidates from all fields of cinema and media studies are encouraged to apply. However, candidates whose interests substantially align with those of existing department members have a greater chance of success. We will provide a wide range of opportunities for self-conducted, mentored, and collaborative research in a vibrant and supportive environment. The recipient of an RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship will be paired with a Visual Studies faculty mentor and is expected to publish research output with international impact. Applicants should provide information about their work experience, qualifications, research interests and achievements.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have obtained/ been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification on or after 1 January 2019, or will complete the requirement of a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification by 31 August 2023
- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in cinema studies, media studies, art history, communication studies, or related fields with experience conducting cinema and digital media studies research.
- Academic potential, the capacity to bring varied ideas to the Visual Studies department, and the willingness to connect with a wide variety of colleagues and students will be significant selection criteria.
