Dear colleagues, 

I'm sharing information for the current exhibition LU YANG'S SCREEN BODIES (29 August–16 December 2022) at Centre on China in the World Gallery, ANU. This is a focused exhibition on Lu Yang's work, accompanying a special issue of Screen Bodies journal on Lu Yang's work and queer Sinofuturisms - co-edited by ANU/CIW researcher Prof. Ari Heinrich, who is also co-curator of the show.

Film Screening: Lu Yang: DOKU The Self  (36mins, 2022)

+ followed by a Q&A discussion with Gabriel Remy-Handfield (University of Montreal) and Jori Snels (Western Sydney University).

The film is the first narrative work in a series featuring the artist’s digital avatar, “Doku,” who shares facial features with Lu Yang, but lives in a virtual world rich in Buddhist iconography. In DOKU: The Self, Lu Yang adds autobiographical detail to Doku’s world. Following a near-death experience in an airplane crash, Doku journeys through six reincarnations from vengeful shaman to terrified passenger, taking viewers on a wild ride that challenges binary distinctions between life and death.

I would also like to share the link of Lu Yang’s The Great Adventure of Material World _ Game Film 2020 AGNSW acquired in 2021. It is currently on display in the exhibition “Elemental” in the Asian Lantern Gallery.
