Cohabitations takes seriously the historical interdependencies of built environments and constructed ecologies. As studies of past, present, and future habitats, books in the series collapse the distinctions between architecture, ecology, landscape, and art, and between human and nonhuman worlds. Cohabitation is a planetary issue, of endangering events and their geopolitics, as well as the possibility of new landscapes and forms of life. Intertwining anticolonial, feminist, and race-aware scholarship, the series explores the liberatory politics and poetics of being in common, of living amidst the unruliness and negotiations inspired by cohabitation.

Series editors: Namita Vijay Dharia, Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi, Peg Rawes, Ikem Stanley Okoye, and Daniel A. Barber.

Cohabitations develops manuscripts through editorial workshops with author cohorts. It provides a platform for creative interdisciplinary scholarship, which:

  • examines the structural unevenness of historical, designed, and environmental formations;
  • considers the plurality and politics of inhabitation, as a matter of practice and theory;
  • models methods of writing together and encourages new kinds of scholarly community and collaboration;
  • produces a body of monographs that helps to build new epistemic grounds.
