Hi all,
This is a final kind reminder that submissions for the Asian Studies Association of Australia (ASAA) conference close this Monday 22nd.
I'm delighted to learn from the conference lead that there have been quite a large number of submissions but the wish is to see many more come in by next Monday.
As the 'champion' for Art History (and more generally art) related papers for the upcoming conference, I very much welcome further submissions for our discipline (but please note that submissions must go through the conference website, not directly to me).
Many of you would hopefully share with me the sentiment that the ASAA has become a really important platform for sharing our research. As with the AAANZ conferences, we've built up a much stronger profile for Asian art related research at ASAA conferences in the last decade or so, compared to when I first started going in my early research days! I, for one, would love to see this momentum continue. The last ASAA at U Sydney in 2018 was a fantastic gathering of Asian art research, as was the one prior to that held at ANU in 2016. We've had to skip ASAA in recent years for obvious reasons. I'm looking forward to us finally reconvening in 2022!
By the way, I think it's helpful to note that while the conference theme is stated as 'Social Justice in Pandemic Times', the committee is looking for papers that have a social justice focus and which are not necessarily connected to the current pandemic. (At the conference FAQ page it states: The conference theme is 'Social Justice in Pandemic Times', can I submit a proposal not specific to pandemic times? Yes, all papers are welcome however we will be looking at papers that have a social justice focus. Please don’t hesitate to submit your paper we would love to hear from you!)
I'm told: the conference will have fabulous speakers, food and entertainment lined up; conference hubs in India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia; a fantastic postgraduate day; and lots of opportunities for networking in-person and virtually!
It would be great, also, if you could please share this communication to others you know who may be interested, whether based in Australia or elsewhere, given both the in-person (Monash Clayton Campus in Melbourne) and online zoom options for the conference.
Looking forward to more art history submissions and catching up at ASAA Melbourne next year!
Warm wishes,
Michelle
We are thrilled to be presenting the ASAA Conference 2022 as a hybrid event.
We will be hosting a variety of panel sessions, workshops, and networking events virtually and in-person at our Monash University campus in Clayton. With COVID-19 restrictions permitting we hope to host hubs at our campuses in Indonesia, Malaysia, India and China.
Through our online conference portal you can watch live webinars and have the ability to ask questions, make comments and download any material related to the session. All our sessions will be recorded and available to watch at any time.
We understand a major part of conferences is the social and networking aspect. This is why we aim to have networking hubs set up in our international campuses.
Whether you are located in Melbourne or across the globe, you will be able to attend and interact in-person or virtually no matter your time zone.
