We are delighted to present John Young’s forthcoming solo exhibition, A Changing Sky, which
features mesmerising paintings where layered chromatic compositions and delicate fields of light dissolve into shifting states of perception and stillness.
Acclaimed for his ongoing Abstract Paintings series, John Young presents A Changing Sky,
a new body of work shaped by the rapidly shifting conditions of the contemporary world. The compositions are no longer composed in the old sense; they now emerge and re-form. The result is remarkable paintings that act as fields of transmission which drift
into unstable imagery where composition itself begins to move beyond the certainty of the human hand.

JOHN YOUNG, Walking the Seasons: Winter, 2024, oil on Belgian linen,
190 x 150 cm. |
|
A Changing Sky moves through the atmosphere of filters and electronic weather before slowly returning to painting.
Young works against the speed and indifference of technology; it is through painting that he insists on another rhythm that is patient, attentive and bodily.
While some works such as Naïve and Sentimental Painting XXXVIII pulse with atmospheric
movement and layered chromatic intensity, others retreat into controlled muted palettes of soft greys, mineral whites, earth tones and neutrals. These quieter paintings evoke states of stillness and suspension, where colour appears to hover just beyond perception.
Across the exhibition, Young harnesses charged subtleties often overlooked - fleeting memory, shifting light, sensation and the instability of perception itself. |
