Dear Colleagues and Friends

I'm pleased to announce that our special guest edited issue, ‘Grounded in Place: Dialogues Between First Nation Artists from Australia, Taiwan and Aotearoa’ is now published in the Pacific Arts journal (e-scholarship UCLA, 2022). It’s open access and please feel free to circulate.

This issue emerged from the online symposium we delivered in 2021 - with the same title (https://research.qut.edu.au/cpfsi/events/grounded-in-place-symposium/). The papers in this volume further explore and expand on the panel themes explored in the symposium including: history and sovereignty; land and community; site and materials; and place and space - with the focus on First Nations perspectives and the Indo-Pacific region.

I’d especially like to thank the artists, curators and scholars who contributed to the symposium and this special issue including:
Vernon Ah Kee; Judy Watson; Mandy Quadrio; Leah King-Smith; Akac Orat (陳豪毅); Yuma Taru (尤瑪•達陸), Chang En-man (張恩滿); Anchi Lin (Ciwas) (林安琪); Kaihaukai Art Collective; Areta Wilkinson; Ngahuia Harrison; Megan Tamati-Quennell; and Patrick Flores. Thanks also to fellow guest editors, Fang Chun-Wei (方鈞瑋) and Zara Stanhope, and to the Pacific Arts journal team.

Wishing you a safe, relaxing and happy Christmas and New Year.

Sophie
