INTERNATIONAL MEATLESS DAY - ANIMAL RIGHTS DAY NOVEMBER 25, 2008
Every year on November 25th, millions all over the world pledge to observe the day as "MEATLESS DAY" during which they abstain from consuming all forms of meat, fish and fowl for one day. Last year over 89.2 million people participated world wide, including 7,637 from Malaysia.
Why one day? We hope that this single day helps to raise awareness among people on the general benefits of turning MEATLESS – of the health issues, the economic advantages and the ethical considerations.
Thereafter, one may even give a thought: "If I can turn meatless for a day, can I turn meatless for a longer period - or even for a lifetime?"
The International Meatless - Animal Rights Day campaign was conceived in India in 1986 by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission - a social service organisation dedicated to serving mankind, especially the poor and downtrodden. The mission has declared 25th November as an international meatless day in memory of its founder, Sadhu T.L. Vaswani - philosopher, spiritual leader and educationist who practiced and preached the message of non-violence for all beings. From 2002, the meatless day campaign has been taken over by the SAK Association.
