Hey all,
At the last SuperCollider meet-up we had a few new faces who weren't particularly using SuperCollider. Rather, they were using PD and Max, but were curious about SuperCollider and the projects people were working on.
A discussion sprung up about the possibility of broadening the scope of the group to a more general "Creative Music Coding" group, that would invite all DIY music and sound programmers to come discuss their work and share techniques regardless of the coding package they use (PureData, ChucK, Max, C++).

The format could be something similar to the SC meet-ups but we'd do it in the STEIM Foyer (with couches!) and have two beamer/PA setups to be able to have multiple strands of discussion.

Marije, Tijs, and I are strongly considering trying this new format out as an experiment. But what do you all think?
Are there any suggestions for the format, or reasons why this may not be a good idea?

Best,
Jon

Hi,

I believe that the only way to find out is to do. There are of course very different reasons why people will use SC, Max or Pd, but I have always believed that the most interesting parts of coding are the algorithms and thought patterns that are used, and not so much the code itself. I, for one, would be very interested in this new format.

Regards,
Edwin

One other thing. We'd also like to make playing and making together a regular part of the meetings. At this last SC meet-up we had a nice livecoding jam session and then showed what techniques we used afterwards. It was lots of fun and also very informative to see how everyone was approaching their synthesis patches!

I'm all for it
would this replace the SC meetups or exist alongside it?

I think the idea is the SC meetups become the new creative music coding meetups.
