Dominiek of Bottlenose and Peter of Bubble Foundry are happy to announce that they will be hosting the next Amsterdam.js on February 8 at the Volkskrantgebouw. We've got a nice big room on the ground floor and we'll have free beer for everyone. The address is Wibautstraat 150 and the building is right in front of the south-west exit of the metro station.

There will be a beamer for presentations, and we look forward to hearing about your cool projects. In return we hope you'll give a us few minutes to let us tell you about the cool things we're developing. Bottlenose is a smart layer on top of Twitter that combines semantic messaging with personalization. Dominiek is looking for a kickass NodeJS hacker to join in. Bubble Foundry is the catch-all moniker for Peter's work, and new to the grab-bag is a talent agency for freelancers. Are you a freelancer looking for gigs? Or perhaps have too many and need help managing the onslaught? Then come on by to hear more.

Again, the details:
What: Amsterdam.js
When: Tuesday, February 8th from 19:00
Where: Wibautstraat 150, ground floor of Volkskrantgebouw

See you next month!

I like to be there, too. It will be my first time.

A little introduction: I'm a freelance front end webdeveloper. I've also
done some back end, but the front end is much more interesting. I'm also
active within Fronteers. And I'm currently not looking for a gig ;)

Hi Jan-Jaap,

I can't speak for anyone else but I'd be very interested to hear about Fanstatic.

@all, sorry for the late reply - I've been swamped at work lately in a
crunch to get the commercial version of Cloud9 ready!
@Jan-Jaap, your topic doesn't seem very Javascript related, but could
be interesting nonetheless...

Peter, Dominiek: you guys rock for hosting the meetup at the
Volkskrantgebouw! I especially liked the 'free beer for everyone'
part, but that might be the alcoholic inside me talking ;)
- no offense -

I'm really looking forward to seeing your place, so I can recommend it
to everyone I know!

All we need now are more talks! Everyone, please reply to this thread
if you want to showcase your project, share ideas, smart tricks,
anything. For example, who can give us a short presentation on jQuery
1.5? Menno would be a great guy to that, but I don't know if he will
be able to attend...

I hope to see many of you guys next Tuesday!

Cheers,

Mike.

Hey all,

I too would like to see a presentation on jQuery 1.5 if anyone's up for that.

I can give a short presentation on a (framework independent) technique
for sequencing arbitrary sync and async calls. I've given it before,
but the bulk has always been explaining how JS works and why you would
want something like this in the first place. For a JS audience I can
boil it down to the technique itself and some example cases, which
would take about 10 to 15 minutes.

If there's time/interest, let me know.

Looking forward to Tuesday, see you all then!

-Michiel.

I actually haven't looked very closely into jQuery 1.5 yet but this will be a good motivator! I'd be happy to do 15-30 minutes on some of the new features and improvements.

Hi Michiel,

Seems like we can haz both jQuery 1.5 AND the short version of your presentation!
I'm indeed interested in seeing use-cases worked out, so that we all can get a basic understanding on when we might want to use/ apply your technique!

@all more ideas? I'd like to introduce a topic called 'Community Update', which contains a list of all that is news and noteworthy in JS-land. And La-La-Land :)

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi guys,

I never attended one of the meetups before but i recently joined as one of the developers on Chirpy:

If there is anyone interested in a quick demo, I could do one.

In any case looking forward to see someone demo jquery 1.5 as well :)

Hey Mike,

excellent, I'll prep a presentation this weekend.
And Martijn, Chirpy looks cool, I'd like to see a demo too.

Wow, I'm happy a lot of people will be coming this Tuesday. It's going
to be a good one!

About the lightning talks:

We've had LT's in the past that tended to last much longer than 5-10
minutes. It would be great if we can really try to keep the tech talks
compact (15 mins max). Having prepared slides and/or examples really
helps in keeping things short and focussed.

@Michiel and @Menno It would be great to have a jQuery 1.5 lightning
talk. Thanks! Can you guys coordinate together what you present?

So far, we haven't done much Server-side Javascript lightning talks.
It would be great if we do some more of those (NodeJS anyone?),
especially since we have more and more people coming from Ruby land
(and I intend to pursuede more people to join the NodeJS awesomeness).
If no SSJS, I have a client-side routing LT prepared which might be
interesting.

Demoing projects:

I will be demo-ing my sponsor project, but because this is
Amsterdam.js I'll include in my presentation why Javascript is core to
my project and what JS kung-fu I have under the hood. (@Jan-Jaap
please include in your LT how your project might impact us
Javascripters)

Demo'ing your project is always great! But let's make sure to keep it
strictly within a 5 min pitch.

Looking forward to this Tuesday!

Like what Dominiek said, it's awesome so many people will be coming. Unfortunately, one person will be missing: me! I'm afraid I have to be in Paris this coming week for a client (hard life, I know), so we'll have to talk Javascript jobs another time. If you're interested in what I'm doing, you can check out my website.

Cheers,
Peter
