This is the version my HP X360 Chromebook is running and iview is playing fine. When Whirlpoolswimmer first raised the issue I tried it on both my now no longer supported Acer C720P and the new X360 and both failed with the 246000 error.

I stuffed around with my VPN and changed the DNS settings from 1.1.1.1 to Googles own 8.8.8.8 and my ISP's default DNS with no luck. I reset everything back to the way it was locally and on my router and bugger me if the X360 then played nice with iview. Acer still no go. Can't explain why but as I sit here iview is happily playing away on the X360 via the browser. I haven't bothered to instal an Android App.

The HP Chromebook x360 at JB HiFi has gone back up to $999 but Amazon have it at $771 with free delivery from the US so I bit the bullet and ordered one. Part number is the same as the Australian model.

Same for my Toshiba, hoping the widevine support comes back with this update but hasn't for the last 3 which makes me think its the ABC's doings.
How did you get to connect and update with the demo's ? Did you use your google pw ?
Good work looking into that ,appreciated.

I don't have a chromeos device at the moment, I used to have a i5 chromebox,
thinking of getting a one, am now waiting for pixel phone launch on 15th Oct, to see if google releases a new chromebook.

I now have an Android capable Chromebook and was wondering, when you reset/powerwash an existing Chromebook all your previously installed apps etc get restored when you log in as we all know. Is this the same for any Android Apps you've also installed?

I just received it but it had a US power plug but luckily my local store had a universal that does the job.
First impressions are good but there is no Prime Video app in the Play store which is surprising. I guess I'll have to access it from Chrome.

I'm new to Chrome OS but have read that not all apps are compatible with it and it certainly doesn't show in the Play Store, not even if I select my installed apps across all devices. That is empty.
The Netflix app is there though so a bit odd.
I've used Prime Video it in the Chrome browser though so not really a problem and saves on memory usage in the end.

It isn't listed if I search Play Store but if I search for it on the Net and select it Play Store says Not compatible.
It's not a big deal as it plays fine in the browser. In fact Chrome OS cheats in a lot of cases by having an app that just sends you to Chrome and opens a tab. Gmail for example.

If I search "Amazon" it lists all of their apps.
Note above I said "if I search for it on the Net and select it, Play Store says Not compatible.
Also a search for "Amazon Mobile LCC" shows every app they have that are compatible.
I've also done a search and many users are in the same position as me. It basically depends on which Chromebook you own. Don't ask me why. I'm finding quite a few anomalies when comparing Chrome OS to an Android tablet or phone.
It still does everything I need though and love having the choice of keyboard, touch screen (including drawing), touch pad and the option of mouse if I want one.

New chrome os system update, lo and behold,ABC iview now works !
We will probably never know whether it was the ABC or Google that caused the drm to work again but I did check a few days ago and wasn't working so it seems logical that it was a Google issue.Great outcome after months and months of no go...

I've been umming and ahhing about this deal all week... not sure whether i should pull the trigger..
on one hand, $700 seems a lot for a chromebook.... but I don't really need windows anymore on my PC at home..
decisions decisions....

I've been using mine for a couple of months and haven't heard the fan once. Mind you I'm not a heavy user but can have around four apps (mainly Google like Chrome, Gmail, Calendar, Keep etc.) running and 5 or 6 tabs open in Chrome.

Awesome thanks, yes it sounds a little dim but if you're happy running it at 75% it sounds similar to how I would run it, what's your overall impression you seem fairly happy with it as a device? I'm a predominantly windows user but have got android phones and tablets. I was keen to have a bit of a go with a chromebook as I like the theory behind them and the idea of a lightweight OS.

I like its versatility. You have keyboard, touchpad and touch screen and I use all of them. I particularly like that you have "mouse-over" like a mouse based PC. Very handy selecting options.
I thought the amount of storage might be restrictive but I treat it like a tablet and use web based storage predominantly.

Pulled the trigger and currently typing this post on the x360, I'm quite impressed with the quality and feel. I was also lucky enough to have a compatible mobile so that it will automatically launch the tethering over bluetooth function when no wifi is available which is perfect for what I needed.

I have to say the reviews were right about the fan, it barely comes on and if it does it is like for 2-3 seconds then shuts up again. HP have obviously tried hard to ensure that it's not intrusive. Because this chromebook thing is a novelty to me at the moment I've been pushing it harder than I would probably under normal use and compared to my traditional Windows 10 laptops it's pretty much silent 99.9% of the time.

Thanks that was a good find, I do find it odd that the reviewer picked the Asus when they stated that the screens are identical but the keyboard, touchpad, processor and battery were all better in the HP. IMO ignoring the screens the other items have to decide it from an objective point of view.

That guy from Chrome Unboxed generally does very good reviews (I subscribe to his channel) and I notice he does like Asus products but I wouldn't say he's biased. If you have a look at his stand alone reviews of the HP X360 and the Asus C434 he raves about both of them, mainly criticising the C434 over it's 4GB ram vs the HP's 8. That C434 at Harvey's has 8 now. They seem line ball when spec'd the same.

I bought the HP X360 a few months ago after seeing his review (which coincided with the HP being around $650 on special at JB HIFI when its RRP was closer to $975 from memory) as an upgrade from a no longer supported Acer C720P. The Acer was the bee's knees back in 2015 when I got it from the US but there is no comparison to the X360. I am not a 'power user' since I retired but if it wasn't for Usenet/BT I'd have totally transitioned to a Chromebook. So much less hassle ;)

My preference for a replacement came down to a choice between the Asus C434 or Asus C214, neither of which I could get here in Oz at the time without having to sell a kidney. Watched the Chrome Unboxed review of the HP and the fact it was here and cheap was a no brainer. The ability to use Android apps was the icing on the cake for me. Couldn't be happier with it ;)

Everything that Robby says in his comparison is spot on, the smaller form factor with same size screen (which looks better than the HP) is great. KB is totally fine to type on BUT yes the trackpad is a level below being plastic.

Of course, but I sure don't notice any difference in snappiness.
I ended up with a 740/1548 score on mine just running on battery so not sure if that makes a difference.
I do have Hyper-Threading enabled though so I would expect that is the cause of the higher multi score considering the single is thereabouts.

Yesterday I bought an ASUS 14 in flip from Harvey Norman for $759 with a $300 gift card. Very happy with it and an upgrade from my 2014 Toshiba. Have to say it's weird playing a game on such a large screen. Looks beautiful and finally have a backlit keyboard. Unlike some people I still prefer the 16: 9 screen. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

I did consider going back and buying the display model for another voucher and *hoping* I had to return it too, but my conscious told me I was filthy enough for one day.
Very very happy with the Asus though.

i have a spare netgear aircard 320u from telstra which i have unlocked and confirmed all working with my windows lappy although i have retired that one and hopefully could get it to work on my acer n15q8 chrome book.

I went with the amazon.com.au store as they charged gst.
I has a power brick so I just got a cloverleaf power cord from Jaycar,
there is Wacom stylus that is stored in the base, at the front on the right.

Just a heads up.
I just bought a Samsung DUO Plus 128GB USB Type-C drive. It gives you the capability to copy from a Type-A USB drive to the DUO connected to the Type-C power port. Not something you do every day but could be handy.
I didn't even know there were dual connection type flash drives and stumbled upon it on special on Amazon AU. It certainly adds some versatility and as my HP x360 has two charging ports I could be charging it at the same time as well :-)
BTW the transfer time was not mind-blowing but adequate.

I've been looking in to purchasing a relatively cheap Chromebook and I was just after some advice. I saw that Big W has the C340 for $399 with a $125 gift card. I was set to purchase that, however I noticed this model at Officeworks:

So with Lenovo not even being readily available to buy (oh well, the demand is there but the supply doesn't seem to be handled professionally...) and the HP lagging behind in specs, The Acer Spin 13 seems like the best option right now.
