Ladies and Gentlemen of AMSC:
In the United States, “The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology [PCAST]” is an advisory group of the nation’s leading scientists and engineers who directly advise the President and the Executive Office of the President. PCAST makes policy recommendations in the many areas where understanding of science, technology, and innovation is key to strengthening our economy and forming policy that works for the American people. PCAST is administered by the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)”, see http://www.ostp.gov/cs/pcast).
PCAST will hold its inaugural meeting of this administration on 6 and 7 August 2009, as indicated in the enclosure. This meeting will include a “Public Comment Session” on the afternoon of Thursday 6 August. I have arranged to attend this meeting, in my capacity as a U.S. citizen, and to endorse the Council’s active interest in modeling and simulation as a “national critical technology”, as per US HR-487, and as a significant technology to support national economic recovery and future technical leadership in a world beset with a myriad of challenges in the areas of: health, energy, the environment, security, education, and economic stability.
A draft of my remarks is enclosed for your review and amendment. I will certainly not presume to speak for any of you or your organizations, unless you wish to positively endorse my comments. Nevertheless, I would certainly appreciate the wisdom of your advice in making the best possible impression upon the Council on behalf of the efficacy of modeling and simulation and its potential for application to domestic and international domains of concern.
Regards,
