AMSC Organizational Members:
As you are aware, Modeling and Simulation are not recognized as product or services contributing to the US gross domestic product because they are not included in the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) codes. This circumstance inhibits the representation M&S as a bone fide industry, and inhibits identification of M&S in federal solicitations.
You were also advised that the Office of Management and Budget advertised in the Federal Register of Wednesday January 7 2009 for recommended updates for 2012; and you were encouraged to respond to that solicitation. (see enclosure 1)
I am extremely pleased to announce that through the herculean efforts of several of your SimSummit member peers, a submission was tendered and has been accepted for review in due course. (see enclosure 2)
There is still work to do to gather and submit endorsements for this tender, to coordinate with Canadian and Mexican national partners in encouraging them to accept the proffered recommendations , and if possible, to provide collateral evidence of the influence to the well-being of the nation of the acceptance of these recommendations.
Meanwhile, please join me in thanking Patrick Rowe of NTSA for communicating so effectively with the US Government to have our input accepted for review; and consider what further steps might be taken to have the recommended changes accepted on behalf of the M&S profession, industry, and market.
