Guru Poornima – The Light of Guidance
Respected Swamijis, teachers, and dear students, Today we gather to celebrate Guru Poornima, a sacred day dedicated to honoring our Gurus — the guiding lights of our lives. The word Guru means “one who dispels darkness.” Just as the moon shines in full glory on Poornima, the Guru illuminates our path with wisdom.
Guru Purnima is one of the most spiritually significant festivals in the Hindu calendar, meant to honour the Guru, the one who dispels darkness and leads people towards & Guru Purnima is the strengthening of the universal principle of wisdom – Guru Tattva.
From ancient times, India has revered the Guru as equal to God. Our scriptures declare: “Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara.” The Guru is the embodiment of creation, sustenance, and transformation.
On this day, we remember the great Gurus:
Vyasa, who compiled the Vedas and wrote the Mahabharata.
Drona, the teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas.
Viswamitra, who gave us the Gayatri Mantra.
Adi Shankara, who revived Sanatana Dharma.
Mahaperiyava, the sage of Kanchi, who lived as a beacon of simplicity and devotion.

Students, Guru Poornima is not just about worshipping Gurus of the past. It is about recognizing the Guru in our daily life — our teachers, parents, mentors, and even the inner conscience that guides us. To follow a Guru means to live with discipline, humility, and devotion.
Let us pledge today:
To respect our teachers.
To live by values of truth and compassion.
To seek knowledge not just for success, but for service.
As Swami Vivekananda said, “The Guru is the bright lamp that lights the disciple’s path.” May we all walk in that light.
