Pongal festival is one of the most important festival in Tamil Nadu celebrated by all Tamil peoples on Tamil month Thai 1st day January 14th 2018.
On the day of Pongal festival We all will be celebrating the same for as thanksgiving of Harvest Festival. .
In many countries like India,In Sri Lanka and Few more other countries all over the World Tamilans on that day making pongal, vadai, murukku, paayasam with sugar canes and other dishes. They offer the Pongal to Lord Surya after Surya Pooja mostly on the Open space to acknowledge the blessings of Lord Surya.
In India other state peoples also celebrate this Harvest festival Pongal Pandigai in different name here I list state wise celebrating names.as I aware
Tamil Nadu - celebrated as Thai Pongal
Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh - celebrated as Makara Sankranthi or Holi
Gujarat and Rajasthan celebrated as Uttarayana
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab - celebrated as Lohri
Assam - celebrated as Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu
Nepal - celebrated as Maghe Sankranthi
On this happy day I with my Family Members share Our greetings for Thai Pongal Pandigai to all peoples.
After Thai Pongal next day all are celebrating Maatu Pongal festival celebrated together by the villagers to thank the cows for their favor in farming.
Third day they celebrating Kaanum Pongal that means all members are meeting in their home or different locations park or beach or Temple and more places and share the wishes and eating in that occasion. In chennai We celabrate this with Grand Kids, Kids,Wife Son and all realatives too!!
