Who is Smaartha?

" A Smartha should orient his life in sync with the Smritis and what they have ordained him to do, both in his personal capacity and in his social avatar. He must scrupulously observe sanatana vaidika dharma and try to align his thoughts and practices with the vision and foresight of our Rishis. A true Smartha does not differentiate among the Devata-s, and while he may have an ishta-devata who he prays regularly and with special fervour, he does not do any rankings of Gods nor does he disregard any Devata in his devotion."   - Excerpts from Sarma Sastrigal's talk given at the held in Chennai on 29th May 2016

With the grace of God and the blessings of our Acharyas, the Samashti Panchayatana Puja conducted on 29th May 2016 in Chennai was a great success and went off exactly as planned.

More than hundred couples participated, from many parts of Tamil Nadu such as Salem, Madurai and Tirunelveli, from other States of our country and even from abroad - from Dubai and the US.

The couples who were to perform the Puja were given the Puja-dravyam i.e. the brass utensils comprising the Devata Murthy's. They were then trained on the procedure for doing the Puja. All of them were then taught the Panchakshari Japa, without which the Panchayatana Puja cannot be started.

A separate booklet on the Puja regulations and do's and don'ts had already been given to the couples.

The persons performing the Puja were fully focused on what they were doing, and did the complete ritual with great fervour and devotion.

A highlight of the program, the jewel in the crown, was the appearance of Sri Sri Bala Periyava through video conferencing at the beginning and conferring his blessings upon the assembly, besides giving His Anugraha Bhashana. This was an invaluable gift to the entire congregation.
