Error when trying to change the directory

I am trying to save a new mod file in a new directory and AMPL is not allowing me to do that. It gives me the following error - "Save Directory location is not valid" (see the attached pic).

Could you please provide a solution for this. thanks

It seems that you don't have write permission in the directory. Please make sure you have a write permission in the directory that you intended to save.

I have checked for folder permissions and I do have write permission. It won't allow me to save. I even created c:\new_folder and tried to save in that folder, it would not allow me to do that.

I got the exact same error message when I didn't have write permission. We haven't got the similar problems from other users. It could be very specific to your computer. I would recommend you to try restarting your IDE. Also, create a file inside the folder outside the IDE using Notepad and make sure you can save in the location. You could try downloading new version of AMPL IDE from https://ampl.com/products/ide/#Windows. If the problem persists, can you send us the version of your operating system?

Hi,

I have the same problem as R Reddy with the latest version of AMPL IDE

No. 3.5.0.201802211250 under Windows 10 Pro ver. 1809 for x64.

Restarting IDE does not help. I checked: when I logged as administrator

or started AMPL IDE as administrator, I could save a new file from AMPL IDE. 

Of course, other editors, for example Notepad, work fine with files

in this directory, that is I may save the new ones.

Is the same operation possible with notepad/other editors without Administrator mode ?

Ideally, if you are trying to create a new file in a location without write access, both IDE and other editors will throw error.

I am trying to create a new file in a location WITH write access, The problem with AMPL IDE is that

it throws error, while other editors work well. Something wrong is with this functionality

of AMPL IDE for users without Administrator's rights.

The strange thing is that I can edit an existing file and save it as a normal

user, without Administrator mode.

Hello, I also have the exact same problem as described. First I don't have the directories shown and I can't create a new model. I get the same error. I ran the IDE as an admin but this does not change anything. 

I created a .mod file in the folder I can open it and save it but it won't be listed in the directory list.

Hi ,

Can you please try to run AMPLIDE in administrator mode. 

If you are on windows, right click on the amplide executable and select Run as administrator. Let me know if the issue persists after that.

Hi,

This message comes up when i do not have write permission. 

Is it possible to restart your computer and create a file inside C:\Users\Philippe\Documents\AMPL\Models using software like notepad/textpad/notepad++. 

Alternatively you may try to run the IDE as administrator mode and create file in entirely different directory where you have write access

Hi,

I created a file inside C:\Users\Philippe\Documents\AMPL\Models using notepad. It worked perfectly well. I change the extension to .mod and could open it in AMPL. The problem still persists though. I can't create a folder or file directly from AMPL and I don't have the list of folders, subfolders and files displayed in the left window. I still get the same error message when trying to create a file.

I also tried once more to run the IDE as an admin but it does not change anything.

It seems that AMPL does not have the list and write permissions. I went to the folder security settings and edited the rights for "all application packages" to full rights. No rights were selected before that.

Unfortunately this didn't work.

You may try again with a fresh installation of amplide from https://ampl.com/dl/IDE/amplide.win64.zip

Unfortunately we have only very rare reports of these AMPL IDE problems, particularly the empty file list in the left-hand window. As a result we don't have much information to help us reproduce the problems on our computers; currently we have not been able to reproduce the problems, and as a result we have not been able to fix them yet.

Once the IDE has been set up, it saves settings files from one session to the next. It is possible that the original error corrupted the settings files and led to later problems. To test for this possibility, you should do a complete re-installation as follows:

1. Find and delete the IDE settings folder, C:\Users\Philippe\AppData\Local\amplide.
2. Look inside C:\Users\Philippe\Documents\AMPL and find the folder that contains amplide.exe (with black cat's-head icon); it will be named something like "amplide" or "amplide.win64". Delete the entire "amplide" or "amplide.win64" folder.
3. Move your "AMPL" folder out of C:\Users\Philippe\Documents and onto your desktop. (The Documents folder is not a standard location for running applications.)
4. Follow the directions at https://ampl.com/products/ide/#Windows to add a fresh copy of the AMPL IDE to your "AMPL" folder.

Then double-click amplide.exe to run the AMPL IDE again. You will know that the re-installation has been completed successfully if you see only the welcome.txt file open in the editor pane. Let us know whether the file listing pane is still empty, and whether you again encounter any other file or folder errors.

Hi,

I followed step by step your instructions but unfortunately it did not solve the problems. I will continue to run AMPL on my older PC, I don't see any other way around.
