Can a 64-bit version of AMPL take full advantage of 256 GB of RAM?

My research group has been using AMPL for some time for clean energy
investment planning.
We often encounter memory constraints, which limits the number of time
points we can sample.
Our PI recently authorized us to buy a server with as much RAM as we'd
like. The largest amount of memory on servers from HP and IBM is 256
GB.
Has anyone had success with using this much memory in AMPL?
I'm worried that we'll spend $12k on RAM and then learn about an
obscure bug that only lets us use half of it.

This is at least partly an operating system issue. Versions of
Windows, for instance, have limitations on how much RAM is accessible
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778%28VS.85%29.aspx).
