After a 2 year hiatus, the Tour de Tuscaloosa will be back on the race schedule this spring with two all new courses. Mark your calendars and save the dates – April 11th and 12th. Many of you have volunteered with the race in a variety of ways over the years, and it would not be possible to put this race on without help from the members of the club. I look forward to working with you as we put this event together. It’s always been a unique event for Tuscaloosa and one that promotes cycling here in the community. I’ve already reached out to a few of you about key roles and will be contacting several more of you here soon. If you’ve had a role in the past that you would like to do again please feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll go ahead and mark you down.
We’re very excited about the new courses. The Criterium race will be held on Saturday at Government Plaza in conjunction with the Druid City Arts Festival. There should be large crowds with food and beverages available as well as activities for the kids, lots of art/crafts and of course some exciting cycling action. Sunday the road race will move out to Sipsey Valley High School for a 12.5 mile loop on a rolling course that should provide for some great opportunities to break up the field. The permit from USA Cycling is in place and online race registration is open at the USA Cycling website. If you are interested in seeing the new course layouts, drop by the shop and get a sneak preview.
I look forward to working with many of you in the coming months to make this a great event. Thanks.
