Gold Coast Amnesty Minutes 11-5-22

Group Update:

1) Discussion about how best to get the group’s decision about proposals & actions that occur between meetings.
Unanimous agreement to survey the active group members using Whats Ap to reach a decision. Halil to oversee the membership of this Whats Ap group.

2) Halil expressed his distress at recent communications with another member of the group. Wishing to respect the views of both people, if agreeable, Elaine volunteered to meet with them before Halil’s trip.

3) We welcomed Kieran to the group and shared our Amnesty stories.

EVENTS
Rainbow Event: 28th May 5.30 - 8pm: Amnesty in conjunction with Art+Potluck group
Sammani gave an update of the organisation, an outline of the program with Speakers . Amnesty Petitions to be available for signatures.
Alanna, Kieran & Richard offered to assist as volunteers.
We will consider gifts for the presenters.
For future events, Richard suggested we purchase some Amnesty Coffee cups to be given as gifts.

Queensland Day June 4th: Broadwater Parklands
Ezzat to check if Amnesty can join with MFO on their site.
Alanna to get Amnesty gear from Halil
Alanna, Elaine & Sammani to volunteer at this event.

Refugee Week Thursday 30th at the MFO building
Aim to have an event similar in style to the International Womens Day gathering.
Featuring Halil’s film and a Q&A session with him.
Alanna to promote on Facebook

Presentation: National Amnesty Refugee Network
Richard discussed the information contained in the Minutes of meetings. Eg Refugee Week resources, election material, the campaign for a Bill of Rights and summaries of other Amnesty campaigns.
An excellent resource for Amnesty actions.
Richard to circulate this link.
