Dear Branch Presidents,

*Amnesty International is conducting a consultation on our next overarching
global strategy for 2016-19.  *The IS has released a first draft of the
international Strategic Goals and is seeking feedback from AI sections.  If
your branch would like to take this opportunity to have your say on the
future directions of the global movement please review the attached
consultation documents and *return your comments by 15 October.*

The attached consultation document 'Towards Amnesty International's Next
Strategic Goals' includes the key questions to provide feedback on, and the
details of the proposed goals, which are presented in the form of four
“propositions" about the world we want to see and one about the
organization we need to be in order to achieve this.

The draft statement for consultation is as follows:

"
Amnesty International wants to see a world in which:
• People know their human rights and can claim them
• Human rights are enjoyed equally
• People are protected during crisis
• Governments and other actors are held accountable for human rights
violations
To best achieve this, we will be a truly global human rights movement of
people defending human rights for all and embracing innovation."

Also attached is some background reading on 'The World We See Ahead', and
the decision making criteria for the strategic goals.

In addition to comments from branches, AIA will also be conducting an
online supporter survey, to be launched in the Leader on 1 October, which
will mirror a global supporter survey being conducted by the IS.  The draft
goals will be discussed at the board meeting next Friday, and we will also
be conducting a staff workshop.  The campaigns teams will be providing a
human rights analysis and a gender analysis, in liaison with partner
groups.  A compiled feedback report will be provided to the AIA Executive
before we report back to the IS by the end of October.

The second draft of the strategic goals will be available in early 2015 and
branches will have an opportunity to make further comment as part of
consultations for the International Council Meeting, which will approve the
goals in August 2015.

Please send your comments to Naomi Vaughan at naomi....@amnesty.org.au
by Wednesday 15 October.

If you have any queries please let me know, or ask me next weekend.

regards,

Andrew
