Since the end of the war in Sri Lanka in May 2009, Amnesty International has been calling for an international investigation into the war crimes and other human rights abuses reportedly committed by both sides during the final months of the conflict.  We know that the Sri Lankan government will not effectively investigate these crimes, given the long history of impunity for human rights violations there.  For more information on human rights in Sri Lanka, please visit www.amnestyusa.org/srilanka.

The White House recently launched a petition site (see www.whitehouse.gov/petitions).  I created a petition on the site calling on the U.S. government to support an international war crimes investigation in Sri Lanka (see http://wh.gov/4oa).

If we can get 5,000 signatures on the petition by Oct. 29, the White House will do a review of the issue and provide an official response.

I'd ask that everyone consider signing the petition and ask their friends to do so as well.  You must be at 13 years old.  You don't have to be in the U.S.

Let's show the U.S. government that we care about justice for victims of war crimes in Sri Lanka!  Please sign the petition today and ask your friends to sign - http://wh.gov/4oa.  Thanks a lot for your consideration.
