Hieveryone, I'm not sure if this has already been answered (I did do a search but can't find something to do with my specific issue) but when you're using a Midi controller can you control Gadget's mixer section like you can with the Nanokontrol Studio? I have hit the function button but this doesn't show any way of assigning Midi for the mixer or CC values.
Also, my keyboard can control the individual gadgets but is there a way that when I switch gadget, then whatever CC value I have saved for say controlling the overall level, doesn't then control the level for any other gadget I've assigned to the same value at the same time?
Basically I want to be able to switch between gadgets but have one of my keyboards sliders to control the level but when I am sliding it about, it's also adjusting the level for any other gadgets I have assigned to do the same thing with. I just want it to control the parameters of whichever gadget I am in until I switch to another one and then it will take control of that gadget independently. Perhaps I need to assign individual midi channels to each gadget?
I set the tracks within Gadget to their respective numbered midi Channels 1-16 and then just change the template and midi Channel on the NXS to whichever track/Gadget I'm targeting. Much easier than it sounds.
I bought the NanoKontrol Studio to see if I could spy on the midi being used to control the transport but ultimately I believe it requires a 'handshake' of sorts via bluetooth connection to get this working.
Thanks SpookyZoo, I thought it might just be a simple case of assigning a different midi channel to each gadget. I have a Novation Impulse which kind of combines both aspects of the Nanokontrol/key Studio devices. It's a shame though that I can't make use of the Impulse's sliders to control Gadget's main mixer section and switch between gadgets. I might invest in a Nanokontrol Studio for that then.
There is so much more they could have done with it though. There are many redundant buttons. The select button doesn't select the channel. You can't switch between gadget views on the app ( this would be great). It's hard to tell which track the faders represent as there is no LCD or even light to indicate this. To combat this I usually keep the SELECT button on the 8th track of the NKS lit, so when using the arrow buttons to access further channels, that Lit Select button is a kind of guide.
My biggest issue is the MIDI channel settings on each Gadget don't "stick" when the app is closed which is really annoying. Actually I noticed on some Gadgets like ones from Module the settings do stick but they do not with Darwin (iM1).
The other annoyance that I see with controlling the output levels within each Gadget is that there is no real way to "mute" a channel aside setting the output level to 0 which then throws off the faders on the LaunchControl XL. I don't think I would have this issue if I could mute through mixer section as the mute would not alter the volume setting. Would love to hear suggestions for working around that issue.
I'm hopeful one day Korg will allow control of the mixer section via generic MIDI. I realize they want to sell NKS but there are so many people that already have midi controllers/keyboards that would just like to be able to use them fully without having to purchase another product.
I've created a 'template' project inside of Gadget with 16 tracks where the midi channels are all set respectively. I have London on Track 1 with a simple 4/4 and then 15 instances of Salzburg (could be anything). I then just swap out for the gadgets I need and set the Midi channel on my controller as required. It works nicely.
It may just be an issue with Darwin. Salzburg and Kiev seem to retain there settings but Darwin does not. Unfortunately the majority of my tracks are using Darwin. And yes I am saving the project before closing the app.
Yes this for sure. Midi assignment of the mixer too. I have faith Korg will follow through on the latter once they correct course away from the video gaming obsession (Switch, Kamata, Otori etc.) they've been on for way too long.
I just received my Novation Launch Control XL and I'm setting it up to work as a standard midi controller with Gadget. I wanted to use 16 pads at the bottom as toggle switches which works fine using editor software but there doesn't appear to be a way to illuminate the led on the pads when they are pressed. Is there supposed to be some sort of feedback message sent from Gadget to tell the buttons to illuminate? Otherwise it's not obvious if the function is triggered or not. The functions do work just to light to indicate on/off.

If they work like the Launchpad then the software needs to send feedback to the controller.....this would seem to be the case as you can control the LED color of the rotaries from within the template editor but not the pads.
I sent an email to Novation Support. My assumption is that some sort of MIDI output is required back to the LaunchControl to tell it to illuminate the LEDs. If this is the case then I suppose I'm out of luck because Gadget does not output MIDI, correct?
Not sure but you could probably do something with MidiBridge/Midiflow that looks for the input coming from the LaunchControl and then sends back to it the feedback that would ideally come from gadget....this would not be able to stay in sync with changes you make within gadget though and the pads would probably get out of sync with the app
