From Sister Confianza:
Our sojourner-student Lise arrived as planned Friday April 17, and jumped right in, helping Lorany make supper that night. In the photo, Sister Lise is grating plantain for a special dish on a traditional grater made of bits of quartz hammered into a mahogany board.
I was overly busy the first few days she was here, but to my delight she likes lots of physical activity. Almost every morning, Sister Lise works in the yard, cutting weeds and helping with the gardening and permaculture project. She says she is quickly improving her machete skills. She even weeded our pineapple patch, where over twenty fruits are growing!
We haven't managed to get a photo of the three of us together, but I did capture this screenshot of her and me during a Lauds (morning prayer) video call with Sister Annette in Haiti.
It is refreshing to have a new person around to share stories with. She is also a great singer, so we are enjoying music with more harmony than usual!
Sister Alegria seems to be recovered from a urinary tract infection that has dragged on since holy week. We are grateful to the nurse Gissell who came by seven days in a row to administer IV antibiotics after the first-line pills didn't do the job. A lab test tomorrow will confirm her health.
Unfortunately, I am experiencing a flare of long COVID. I'd gone with almost no symptoms for several months. Apparently the stressful week when we were preparing for Lise's arrival and Sister Alegria got sick again did me in. My chest gets tired because my lungs aren't working at full strength. I have to be careful about not doing too much physical activity or talking (or singing) too loudly too long.
Your continued prayers are appreciated.
Bendiciones,
Sister Confianza
