From Sister Confianza
At the end of January, the first Honduran United Methodist pastors were ordained elders (or presbyters). Sister Alegria and I met all of them when we attended the annual meeting ten years ago. They had already begun their process of education and discernment towards ordination. In fact, we had quite a bit of interaction with Pastora Magdalena (at left in photo), who was pastoring the UMC closest to us, in La Ceibita outside of Tocoa. Below are links to the article in
English and in
Spanish (with different photos).

A number of bishops from different Methodist denominations in the region participated in the ordination service. We have a long history with Juan Simpson, who had been the pastor at the Methodist Church in La Ceiba when Sister Alegria first came to Honduras on a mission trip in 1999. There were also representatives from other denominations in Honduras (Catholic, Lutheran, and Episcopal) not mentioned in the article, including our friend Pascual Torres (at left in the photo). He's an Episcopal pastor in San Pedro Sula, and distributes The Upper Room devotional in Honduras. He took the photos in this email.
