The much anticipated permaculture course begins on Monday. Sister Confianza had planned to do sewing today.
At 6 am we were getting ready for Lauds, morning prayers. Sister Confianza raised the head of my bed as usual. Then it slipped and fell back down--landing on the long finger of her right hand. It was a freak accident, but, yes, she was trying to do two things at once. It hurt a lot!
After she got the weight off her finger, she needed to just rest for a while. Then she walked to a neighbor's house looking for ice. First stop, no one up yet. Second stop, the lady was up and cheerfully gave Sister Confianza a bag of ice.
Next, to break it up. She got out the ice crusher--a heavy piece of wood (imagine Fred Flinstone's club). With her left hand and arm she smashed the ice on the concrete counter top until the pieces were small enough to fit in a cup.
She dipped the already swelling finger into the ice water as much as she could stand for half an hour and took a pain pill.
There is no broken bone, thank God.
No sewing today.
Then Lorany, our hired helper, called to say she couldn't come today. Bummer.
At about 8 am we had Lauds. Sister Confianza decided that today is a good day to check out the relatively new laundromat in town. They charge by the pound. Since our standard is 4 blouses and 3 dresses, there isn't much wiggle room on laundry. Even less right now because blouse number 4 is not in her clothing box, it is on the sewing machine, waiting to be finished.
I don't know why some words come out underlined. Sorry about that.
William brought lots of plant based home remedies. She used those, too.
By afternoon the finger didn't hurt if she didn't bump it.
Big purple ring at the first interphalageal joint. I'm sure we'll have quite the color show in the next week or two.
Just another day.
Blessings,
Sister Alegría
