From Sister Confianza:
Yesterday we had a special visit by our friends from the United Methodist Church in La Ceibita, Tocoa. We used to visit them regularly when we traveled but because of Sister Alegria decline, it had been several years since we'd seen them. To our surprise, an entire busload of brothers and sisters (ages 1- 65 or so) arrived around 9:30am!
I'd straightened up the house a bit, but crowding 50 people inside was a challenge! Luckily, they brought chairs.
Pastor Orlin and a layperson led a brief worship service that included Holy Communion, a sacrament in the Methodist church that is supposed to be conducted only by ordained or licensed pastors. (We have regularly broken this rule, and now have communion most months when we watch the Boyceville (WI) UMC worship service online.)
Then the big surprise came. They brought birthday cake for Sister Alegria! (Her 78th birthday is on Tuesday.)
And a piñata! (a standard for birthday parties here)
There were also snacks, relaxing in the yard, and a dip in the sea (for them; we rested at home). They prayed for us and we all professed our care for one another. It was a really lovely day (though exhausting for Sister Alegria).
Now, what to do with most of a leftover cake and a huge bag of candy...
Bendiciones,
