From Sister Confianza,

On Palm Sunday, a meditation I wrote appeared in The Upper Room daily devotional magazine.  Plus, I just learned that another meditation from me will appear on May 31.

You can read the April 10 meditation text in English below in its email version, or copied from the printed booklet, attached. The Upper Room and its Spanish version, El Aposento Alto, are both on Facebook, with weekday meditations published as videos. If you'd like to subscribe to the print or digital versions in English or Spanish (email, app, etc), go to     https://www.upperroom.org/available_subscriptions/daily_devotional_options

I'd also like to announce the debut of the Amigas del Señor YouTube channel
There, you can watch Sister Alegria and me read the Palm Sunday meditation in both English and Spanish.  We've even posted "God Used a Donkey," a song we wrote to the tune of "Count Your Blessings" about donkeys in the Bible.  A big thanks to Paul Jeffrey for permission to use his amazing photographs of people and donkeys from around the world, and to Earl Blodgett for the editing and subtitles! Hopefully, we'll be posting more videos soon.

Enjoy!

DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR APRIL 10, 2022

Jesus, Prince of Peace

READ 1 KINGS 1:32-40

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

MARK 11:9-10 (NIV)

I learned as a child that Jesus’ humble entry into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilled Zechariah’s prophecy (see Zech. 9:9). As a young adult, I discovered that he was also following in the footsteps of King David’s son Solomon. The crowd hailed Jesus as the Son of David and the hoped-for Messiah. Many of them wanted him to overthrow the oppressive Roman government, but they were to be disappointed. Jesus taught love for God and neighbor. His followers discovered that Christ was the Prince of Peace and, more than a military leader, he was “the way and the truth and the life” (Jn. 14:6).

Jesus preached good news to the poor and to all nations. After his death and resurrection, his disciples took that good news to all parts of the Roman Empire and then around the world. Christ’s message of God’s universal sovereignty and love for all people has persisted despite the violence in the world and sometimes even within the church. We live in an era of fear and nationalism, but God is calling us to something greater. When we love people from all backgrounds, we truly honor Christ as the Prince of Peace and Messiah.

TODAY'S PRAYER

Dear Jesus, thank you for coming into the world to proclaim God’s love for all people and nations. Help us to embody your love. Amen.
