You are invited to join the Amigas Bible Study on Zoom as we read the Gospel of John, Wednesdays beginning April 22.  Come when you can; drop-ins welcome.  Login details below.  Facilitated by Sister Confianza of Amigas del Señor Methodist-Quaker Monastery in Honduras.

The Gospel of John was was written some time after Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and tells the story of Jesus in quite a distinct way from them.  It is beloved by Quakers and others for its powerful stories of transformation and the "I am" sayings of Jesus.  In John, Jesus calls his disciples his friends -- the origin of the name of the Religious Society of Friends -- and commands us to love one another.  Yet even as we immerse ourselves in these beautiful aspects of the gospel, we must also contend with how it talks about "the Jews" in ways that have been used to justify anti-Semitic prejudice and horrific violence against Jewish people throughout the history of Christianity.  Let us accompany one another on this journey in tender love as we grapple with these challenges.
