Hi all,
Thanks for being an awesome class as usual. It was great to hear your ideas during the debate, and about how you felt during the discrimination exercise. I wanted to quickly clarify that in America, we do not often discriminate people based on the length of their hair. I wanted to complete that class example to show you what it feels like to be discriminated against. However, the discrimination that happens in America is more so related to people's race (skin color), class, religion, and cultural values. Unfortunately, some people relate these different things to people's intelligence to justify why they treat them poorly. Such is a sad fact about America.
During class, some of you spoke to me about how this exercise is related to how Vietnamese people discriminate each other and others. I hope that during this class, we can learn about American culture not only to realize the injustices in other cultures, but in Vietnamese culture as well. That way, we can work together to create the change that we wish to see in the world. =)
Take care, and have a good week!
