Thanksgiving Turkey 2008 - Dead on Arrival

As a native born Yank I wouldn't want to be a killjoy on Thanksgivng,
one of our totally unique, homemade, original holidays: like
basketball is our totally unique sports. No, I wouldn't want to do
this because I like Thanksgiving: food, family, football, fun: What's
not to like?

Quickly, thought, on the other hand, when I got a brief glimpse on TV
of President Bush "pardoning," two turkeys yesterday (named: "May,"
and "Flower," I thought I'd puke. Especially when I heard these
"pardoned," turkeys would be sent to Disneyland to lead Disneyland's
Thanksgiving Parade and then become permanent features on exhibit till
their expected impending death due to liver failure (a result of being
unnaturally made overfat for our feasting).

How totally American, I thought. The pic, too, on this page: How
totally American: It shows an angry looking menacing Indian being
offered cheap trinket beads by a drunk looking fat Pilgram.

OMG. Where to begin to correct these public relations and Disneyland
distortions? Number One, I suppose is to mention the Native Americans
went hunting that day and brought freshly killed deer to the feast.
Number Two, I suppose, might be good to remember that all accounts
indicate these Pilgrams would have died their first year here without
Native American help. Number Three, it should be pointed out, the
Indians quickly stopped taking junk trinket beads in exchange to real
valuable goods, like food.

Now, today, on similar pretensions, charades and public relations our
government is widely seen as the greatest threat to world peace and
the greatest screw-ups at home: The economy is going south. The dollar
has become "worthless paper," our death-grip monopoly on power and
world economy is about to come tumbling down like a house of cards,
we're so deep in debt our grandchildren will still be paying for it,
New Orelans is still a waterly grave, towns and cities are beginning
to go dry and run out of water, our jobs and industrial base has been
sold out, and pre-emptive, first-strike wars started on deliberate
deception are reaping the type of response appropriate to sowing such
false seeds.

The country is going flatline, greatly hurled down this dead-end path
by Republican crazed Christian evangelist, divisive "divide and
conquer," Republican political operatives, Oil companies , multi-
millionaire 'private security contractors,' zionist neo-con extremist,
and others.

That Thanksgiving feast of brotherhood, BTW (what the holiday is
suppose to represent --- a peace, a truce, a brotherhood among tribes,
races and nations) -- that Thanksgiving feast didn't last for long.
There were other "thanksgivings,' celebrating the execution of Indian
leaders and/or the destruction of Native America villages.

In the end the white Europeans owned all the land and only a handful
of Indians survived the slaughter.

It's a good thing to ponder all this, as the President pardons turkeys
to be sent off to Disneyland.
