Hi Crew, Some bug fixes to report:
  • You can edit features/rapids again - apologies for that bug.
  • Alerts and news now auto-expire from the general tab after 2 years.
  • Tony your To-Be-Deleted reaches are now gone for real (from the state list) and that issue will not re-occur.
  • The editor should now more accurately portray what posted page content will look like.
Enjoy and Thanks

Glad to hear that alerts will expire but can you add a way to delete them manually before that? It seems counter productive to have an alert on the main facing page that isn't relevant anymore and may cause some not to boat a given reach.

Pete

Thanks for the To-Be-Deleted fix.  Now can we fix the erroneous virtual gauges?

Thanks.

Pete: When you go to the News and Info tab and click the edit pencil, do you see an option to delete your own alerts? I have the option to delete any of them, but I'm not sure what others see. If you have some specific ones that are driving you nuts send me the URL to the river page and I'll delete the alert from the main page.

Tony: We've tried to understand your concerns about virtual gages but I don't think we do. At least I don't. Can you send me an email about this or point me to your explanation of the issue via email?

Paul: Glad ya like it!

In addition to the problem Tony will explain, there's the one I posted a while back:

I see a way to delete any Alert once I click the "view more" link. I'm not sure I want to delete old alerts totally though. I don't see any option on the main page itself.

Also, can we do the same for old news and documents? Right now, the main Clackamas page, https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/1494/main, has a bunch of news and documents listed at the top of the page before the river description. It isn't terribly annoying on a desktop but with real estate in high demand on a phone, it would be nice not to push the info most are looking for further down the page, requiring a scroll.
Thanks.

Pete,

The thinking was we don’t want to “delete” alerts because a history of alerts has some value—in theory someone could scroll through and see a rapid or feature that had consistent wood hazards and know to approach with caution even if no current alert. What we did wan was for them to move off the top banner after two years. That’s the change.

We have a bigger project to fix the design of the page generally and optimize that prime real estate. My understanding is scrolling the alerts off was a quick fix but yes I have made the same observation as you and was informed the developer team did not want to invest much in the legacy code base.
