I have written a review and summary of a paper, "The Model of War," by
Professor Jeremy Elkins, of Bryn Mawr College. Elkins analyzes how US
Presidents, from Johnson through Nixon and Regan, defined major social
issues such as poverty, cancer, crime and drugs, as external enemies
that needed to be fought with military style tactics. Actually, this
pattern goes back to the Temperance Movement of the 19th century and
the "war" resulting from alcohol Prohibition in the 1920's. These are
the roots of the real war that is now being fought in Mexico.

I hope you find it as enlightening as I do.

I'm posting the link to your piece on my site. It will appear in tomorrow's
edition of "Today's Headlines." Hopefully it will help to dispel the thick,
black fog of ignorance enveloping our world today.
