This new record puck ensures a secure fit between record and turntable. With the two different finishes, black painted and polished silver, it perfectly fits the design of of our turntables. Record pucks use weight to secure a playing vinyl record against the turntable platter. By holding the two together, the sound performance of the turntable will improve, in timing and depth of sound. With a weight of 190 grams, this puck is perfect for smaller turntables in order not to burden the turntable bearing and to prevent an increase in rumbling.

The Record Puck Pro ensures a firm fit between the record and the turntable.

Record pucks use weight to secure a record against the turntable platter. This improves the sound performance of the turntable in both timing and sonic depth.

Please ensure that the spindle height (including the record) does not exceed 10.5mm.

Extra weight on the spindle helps to hold records in place more effectively than the weight of the records alone, making it easier for the stylus to track the grooves accurately and produce a more detailed, more lively sound.

I use a reflex clamp similar to the Mitchel except mine is DIY. With an acrylic mat a clamp is mandatory. There is an audible difference over the stock Technics rubber mat. The other advantage is the reflex clamp flattens mild warps.

@MrRogers here's one to consider...a 45 adaptor (for use on those 7" singles with crazzeey big holes) but also for providing moderate stability on regular to lighter weight LPs. Weighs 130gm so should be spindle friendly on most tt (users to determine/decide for themselves)

I bought a cheap record weight from eBay to try. I'm not sure how the materials would affect the sound, I would think it would be more about the diameter in contact with the label and the total weight of it.

@Warren Jones @punkterfuge I bought the Pro Ject puck initially for my Debut Carbon, and the Music Hall came with it's screw down clamp, and I found it annoying to screw on/off every time and it's not heavy at all. I believe the Pro Ject puck weighs in at about 750g, so it's pretty hefty and I'm sure it would do the same job flattening a warped record as a clamp would. Sonically couldn't hear a difference, it's more of a convenience thing for me.

I want to monitor the temperature one of my pucks. It is now installed in my freezer.
Initially I wanted to do this monitoring from a RaspberryPi v3 running Jessie which is about 4m behind the freezer through a wall but I would prefer the temp to be broadcast via BLE so that this sensor is readable by tools such as gatttool on the RaspberryPi and other devices that support BLE eg my Android phone.

Now that I know the radio transmission path is OK and the sensor is working the next challenge is to get this puck broadcasting the temp. To maximise battery life I don't want to connect to the puck each time I want a temperature reading; instead I would like to receive data over BLE like a beacon.

@MaBe, thanks for the code, looks interesting! However it does not work for me, I tried for example the nRFToolbox on an iPhone. That does not display the data. Can you tell which application you used to read the data?

@MaBe, many thanks for those examples. Really helpful. Worked second time of asking. Weirdly copy / pasting into nano and uploading via CLI on Raspberry resulted in the error below which seen before but luckily the example was easy to retype.

I don't have access to bluefruit but was then able to test the code using the bluez command gatttool to query the characteristic 0x2A6E which responded with '31 39 2e 32 35' which is 19.25 in ascii. The puck was in the warm so it is a sensible result. (This puck stopped working after it got to a temperature of -32 degrees in my freezer but has now recovered)

I am reading temps using gatttool but because I have to connect to do this I suspect a purist would point out that this is not Low Energy yet. For that I plan to explore use of Node Red over the holiday but in the meantime, has anyone got broadcasts working? If so, what mobile app or tools are you using to view the advertising? Are you able to post a screenshot?

on the monitoring end the EspruinoHub software works well on the RPi. The temperature in this case gets published by the hub to the local mosquitto MQTT broker where it can be subscribed to by any MQTT client. For example the client on the RPi (change the MAC address to yours)

If you mean notifications via MQTT on Android I use MyMQTT. For iOS there's and app called MQTT Tester that I haven't tried. If you mean notification directly from the puck via BLE there's nRF Connect for Android that works. For iOS it's called nRF Toolbox but I haven't tried it. My iPad is too old. For OSX I have no idea.

A cheaper one mentions -20 ( ) but I'd have thought it'd be ok. I guess if you do hit issues you might need to find a better battery but it definitely seems to be within sensible temperatures for a freezer.

This new Record Puck ensures a firm fit between the record and the platter surface & perfectly fits the modern and elegant design of the Debut PRO. Record pucks use weight to secure a playing vinyl record against the turntable platter. By holding the two together, the sound performance of the turntable will improve, in timing and depth of sound.

The nickel finish results in a hard, resistant surface. This process enables us to produce very high-quality and sustainable components and avoid plastics and similar materials that continue to age over time.

The Project Turntable Record Puck is for use on Project turntables, its 750g weight ensures a firm fit between the record and the platter surface. Also suitable for most other turntables with similar size spindles.

Having just got back into vinyl as many have and my 39 th birthday looming I took a punt on this, I mean who cares if it makes a difference, it adds to the event, right? Well I was sceptical. Opened the rather nice box, and there was this gorgeously made lump of brass. So I started spinning without it for a few tracks. Listened to the same tracks with the puck....wow!! Everything leaped from my speakers and sat in front of me, bass tightened vocals lifted and I heard a new sound, a definite bargain. Buy it. Sounds like a lot for a lump of brass, but believe me, my player is a new machine..I love vinyl...right, next upgrade???

The Pro-ject Record Puck is a basic and easy to use accessory. It does the same job as a record clamp except it also adds a 750 gram mass to the platter. I had recently replaced my steel platter with an acrylic platter, and this puck has replaced the weight that was lost in the upgrade. The puck is BRASS and will not affect your MC or MM cartridges. It is made with a comfortable groove in the side and is easy to grip, even with arthritis affected hands. The puck is finished with a high quality powder coat satin black paint and is presented in a wooden box (new design) with magnetic lid restraint and no hinges or clasp. A nice accessory for any turntable.

Here is a much larger array of these holes, that was useless for a hoverpuck, but is still interesting for a number of other applications.

It makes me think of filter plates for processing precipitates in chemistry, or a vacuum chuck for holding down flat things, or air bearings or any number of other places where an even grid of tiny holes would be needed.

I like this but your puck would be getting pretty heavy. I have vivid memories of getting air hockey pucks to the knuckles. haha i can imagine taking one that has a battery and fan glued to it.
Not to dissuade you, definitely worth trying!
