We had a surprise rainstorm Friday evening, as we joined Don and Karen K for dinner at Lagniappe, followed by a bus trip to the Jacksonville Symphony. Glad we weren't driving! Then got up early Saturday morning to dripping trees and steam rising over the marsh. When I arrived at Main Beach, Rich W suspected it just might rain! Instead we put up with heat and humidity, a brisk west wind, and a lot of sweat.
While chatting with Amy, Rich, Allen, and Gus, I placed the helmet already brimming with cash on the hood of Janis, the SAGWagen, when a gust of wind blew the helmet off, with a total of $80.00 tumbling across the parking lot. We retrieved the cash, which I later delivered to the Nassau Humane Society. That means that since we started our little fundraiser in October 2016, we have donated a grand total of $12,066.08 (!!!), our way of showing appreciation to the Nassau Humane Society for their Dog Park hospitality and all they do for lucky dogs (and happy cyclists). Thanks to all who have participated over the years.
And thanks to Mike L for stepping up to co-ride lead, after all the flats riders have had lately. Fortunately, he reported no mishaps, mayhem--or flats! Here's Mike's good news:
"Hello! At the risk of sounding boring nothing happened! It was an
absolutely beautiful day, even a tail wind up the beach! Ya can't ask
for more! I found 8 others at the dog park rest stop all looking
tired but very happy, we all chatted a bit and went our different
ways. I did get to see Don Taylor on S 7th st with a bag of goodies I
assume was from the farmers market, and I also saw Dan L out and about
on his litter patrol. So it's wonderful to report nothing once again."
On the way home, Don T stopped at the downtown Farmers Market, while I rode on to the Pride Festival at Central Park, with all kinds of people having fun in the hot sunshine.
Once again, good times were had by all.
