After a windy and rainy week, this morning dawned a calm spring day, with lots of sunshine and no wind--another great day to go for a bike ride, and 28 NFBC registered cyclists agreed. As always, everybody was glad to see each other, especially Ride Leader Emeritus Don E and his buddy originally from Chicago, Larry S. We were all mourning the loss of beautiful Elena E, though we will cherish her memories. Dan L showed up for a chat, as he finalizes his plans to move to Maryland. He will be missed, and we can expect to see litter piling up...even worse than today!
Substituting for last Saturday--as Don T and I were off on an adventure in Guatemala--today we passed the helmet for the month of April, yielding another generous $115.00, our way of thanking the Nassau Humane Society for their Dog Park hospitality, and for all they do for lucky dogs. Since we started our little fundraiser in October, 2016 (thanks to Dan L), we have donated a grand total of $13,114.00!
I was happy to deliver our donation to the Humane Society after stopping by the FB Airport for the Friends of Fernandina Aviation cars and planes show, "Wings and Wheels and Why." Why? To raise funds for scholarships FoFA awards every year. Plus, it's fun! Great cars, cool airplanes, food trucks, live music--even a fire truck!
Thanks go out to Mike L for co-leading today's ride, later reporting no flats, mishaps or mayhem, and that good times were had by all.
