Rain was in the forecast for yesterday morning, not today. But it is pouring right now, as I had expected at the start of yesterday's ride. But an early-morning check of conditions indicated the ride was ON! Clouds parted, revealing a clear blue sky for 10 registered NFBC cyclists who showed up at Main Beach to go for a bike ride. And a fun ride it was!
We were surprised by approximately 54 runners and more volunteers participating in the 2nd annual Terry Kelly 5K, so our usual parking lot was crammed and our north beach loop was closed. I was informed by an Auxilliary Police officer that the run was finishing up, so we could go ahead with our ride, as the event organizers set up for their afternoon "Skate Jam," with music, vendors and food trucks--technically a fundraiser for the Friends of Fernandina Skate Park.

One of our regular Saturday morning riders, Dave B, was finishing up his 5K run, showing off a medal made from a retired skateboard. Like bicycles, skateboards (and riders) don't last forever. We welcomed vintage cyclist Dan G back from world traveling, ready to work on the FB Airport fall garden--and more travel destinations.
Thanks again to all who showed up to ride with us yesterday--especially Mike L for assuming the role of co-ride leader. The usual cast of characters went on their merry ways, some heading home early for college football. Good times were had by all.
